first_img Bullets Over Broadway Closing August 24 at the St. James Theatre If you haven’t seen Nick Cordero and those tapping gangsters dance like nobody’s business, it’s time to bite the bullet. Directed by Susan Stroman and featuring a book by original screenwriter Woody Allen, this musical sadly didn’t get much Tony love, but it does have tigers and hot dogs and divas, oh my, plus a score of toe-tapping ’20s hits. Click for tickets! Every time we say goodbye, we die, cry and wonder why a little. Why do these shows have to close? But alas, all good things must come to an end, and it’s time to say farewell to a few of our Broadway and off-Broadway favorites. You only have a few more weeks to catch Newsies, Bullets Over Broadway, Violet, Rocky and Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch before they say sayonara to the Big Apple. Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig Through August 17 at the Belasco Theatre Hedwig and the Angry Inch is not closing, we repeat, the musical is not closing, and we’re sure Andrew Rannells is going to be terrific. However, Tony-winning headliner Neil Patrick Harris is concluding his tour de force performance, and this is definitely worth noting. If you can snag this hot ticket, you’ve got a decent chance NPH will lick you, kiss you or spit at you. Have fun… Click for tickets! Rocky Closing August 17 at the Winter Garden Theatre Rocky might have come up short for a Best Musical nomination at the Tony Awards this season, but it’s the only show in town where the audience cheers for hunks of meat (well, except Naked Boys Singing). There’s also powerhouse performances by Andy Karl, Margo Seibert and Terence Archie, and a boxing arena transformation you have to see to believe. Click for tickets! Violet Closing August 10 at the American Airlines Theatre Grab your suitcase and your bus ticket, because it’s time to take one last road trip with Sutton Foster before Violet rides into the sunset. The Tony-nominated musical boasts a gorgeous score by Jeanine Tesori and a book and lyrics by Brian Crawley. Bonus: Josh Henry and Colin Donnell in uniform. Click for tickets! Newsies Closing August 24 at the Nederlander Theatre After carrying the banner over 1,000 times on Broadway, the hit Disney musical Newsies will finally stop selling papes. We know, we’re crying too. But the good news is, you still have three weeks left to see Corey Cott and those adorable newsboys pirouetting, climbing on shiny scaffolding and overall seize-the-day-ing. Click for tickets!
