first_imgRory Gallagher has revealed his confidence that there will be no mass exodus of players from the Donegal squad. Speculation was rife in the immediate aftermath of Donegal’s All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Mayo that many of Donegal’s seasoned campaigners were ready to call time on their inter-county career.Supporters were questioning whether or not Colm McFadden, Christy Toye, Neil Gallagher, Eamon McGee, Karl Lacey and Paul Durcan would return for the 2016 season.Paul Durcan then announced his move to Qatar and that seemed to spell the end of his glittering career. However, he moved quickly to dispel the suggestion he was retiring and said while he wouldn’t be available for the league campaign he would be back in time for the Ulster SFC.Now it has been revealed that Gallagher has informed the Donegal County Board he doesn’t expect any of his squad to walk away and is unaware of any wanting to retire.Gallagher also reiterated his desire to keep hold of all his experienced campaigners ahead of next season. After the Mayo game Gallagher said it was important to give the older players in the squad plenty of time for making their commitment for next season. Gallagher said, “It’s important we give the players time and we don’t want any of them to make any knee-jerk reactions.“They’ll go away play championship with their clubs and take a few weeks off and we’ll talk to them in October and see were we are at.County secretary Ed Byrne told the Donegal County Board, “He was pretty adamant that he was not aware of any of the players retiring, and seemed to think that not many of the squad will call it a day. That news will come as a great boost to Donegal supporters and hopefully all the players mentioned above to commit to Donegal for next season as they all remain massive players for the county.RORY GALLAGHER CONFIDENT NO DONEGAL PLAYERS WILL RETIRE was last modified: September 12th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:GAAnewsSportlast_img read more
