Lady Day , Starring Audra McDonald, Will Release Live Cast Album

first_img View Comments The live album will feature signature Holiday numbers performed by McDonald in the play, including “What a Little Moonlight Can Do,” “Tain’t Nobody’s Biz-ness” and “God Bless the Child.” Directed by Lonny Price, the play by Lanie Robertson tells the life story of the legendary jazz singer through the songs that made her famous. Set in 1959, in an intimate bar in Philadelphia, Holiday (McDonald) puts on a show that, unbeknownst to the audience, will leave them witness to one of the last performances of her lifetime. The Broadway production officially opened on April 13 and McDonald has been nominated for a Tony for her performance in the show. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the move. Hollins, 65, will join fellow newcomers Frank Vogel, as head coach, and Jason Kidd, as an assistant, on the Lakers’ rebooted coaching staff. All three have previous head coaching experience.Hollins, who previously was a head coach in Memphis and Brooklyn, played point guard for five teams in a 10-year career. He was a member of the Portland Trail Blazers’ 1976–77 title-winning team and twice was named to the NBA All-Defensive team, in 1978 and 1979. He was an All-Star in 1978.As coach of the Grizzlies, Hollins led the team to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and set franchise records for winning percentage (.683) and regular-season victories (56). He also led the Memphis squad of Mike Conley, Tony Allen, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol to the franchise’s first Western Conference finals berth in 2013.Hollins went on to coach the Nets for two seasons, after replacing Kidd in 2014-15. He hasn’t coached since.Hollins was not among the candidates who were reported to have interviewed for the Lakers’ head coaching position, as Kidd did, although the Lakers were reported to have interest in him. “I have other things going on and my life is moved a little bit in a different direction, but coaching is always in my heart,” he said. “I watch the game form a coach’s perspective. I sit with my son-in-law and watch games; I’m always rewinding and showing him something that didn’t work. I even took a friend of mine and we sat and watched a whole game, and he was amazed.
